Please Suggest a romantic Affordable Honeymoon destination?

Please suggest a good romantic honeymoon destination for end of July and early of august for 7 days. we live in Toronto and can travel any where in the world as long it is affordable. we both love to explore different culture and food. we do not drink. love scenery, beaches but not too much of water sports and not too much swimming. Please also recommend a hotel where you have a good experience.

Going to Europe is out of the question for affordable due to the weakness of the dollar. I recommend the Caribbean. The US dollar is used in practically all places. St. Thomas is great. Check out the Bolongo Beach Club. It has a great beach, is affordable and is NOT a high rise.
Or, you can try San Francisco. That is one romantic city. Stay at Fisherman’s Wharf in the Hyatt. You can’t go wrong.

thailand- the most expensive part is the plane ticket

St Helena Island (us)- off the coast of south carolina. closest you’ll get to west africa and still be in north america.

Montreal. you’re already in canada, and it’s nice

    florida keys, us (GREAT beaches)

How about Cyprus. Few Americans or Canadians visit the island. Cyprus uses the Euro and at the present exchange rate it should be affordable. You will need an aircraft change in Europe. I suggest flying via London Gatwick or London Stansted as both have good connections to Cyprus. Heathrow has few connecting flights.

July in Cyprus is hot expect peaks of about 100F. English is widely spoken and the standard of living is very high. Lots to see and do, good restaurants and plenty of night life. Your Canadian driving licences will suffice and no visa problems.

Cyprus hotels are all pretty modern and to a good standard> I like the Grand Hotel in Platres. This is some 4000 feet up in the Cyprus Mountains and surrounded by pine forest. Great for walking.

You could save money by buying a package from a UK company which includes Flights (from and to London), Hotels, and transfers, Full board or self catering (your choice).

I could write more but I suggest you check out the Cyprus Tourist office website.

Ft. Myers Beach, Florida has great beaches for walking, and very romantic sunsets, although might be a touch hot for July/August. The Outrigger Beach Hotel there is a very nice 2-3 story open air hotel right on the beach and was very affordable when I was there. They have a great onsite restaurant with awesome (and cheap!) breakfast buffets and prime rib dinners.

Finding any destination for cheap during high travel season (June, July, August) could be difficult. Why not wait until mid-September (when all the kids are back in school) before taking your honeymoon? September and October are “shoulder seasons” and you could find cheaper fares and accomodations then. Also, if you depart and/or return on a mid-week day (Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs) fares can be quite a bit cheaper than if you left on a weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun).

Congratulations, and good luck planning your honeymoon!

You definitely need to go to Turkey–it is 1/3 or more the cost of Europe. It is not just the cost that makes Turkey the best kept vacation secret in the world. It is an absolutely beautiful country. Amazing archaeological ruins are everywhere. I’ve read there are more Greek ruins in Turkey than modern Greece. The people are genuinely friendly. Lonely Planet is good guidebook for Turkey.

I have vacationed all over Turkey on four separate occasions. Here is my advice: Since you have only a week, I recommend either spending a week in Istanbul or a combined brief trip to Istanbul and four or five days on the southern Mediterranean coast. There is a lot to see in Istanbul: Haiga Sofia, Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, basillica cistern, cruise out to the Princess Islands, ect. I recommend staying at the Marmara guesthouse. I stay there every time I go through Istanbul. It is a small hotel run by a real nice Turkish family. You are only three or four blocks from the Haiga Sofia and about two blocks from the Topkapi Palace. The Turkish family will serve you breakfast on the roof with a beautiful view of the Bosporus. You are not going to believe this but it only cost me and my wife about $40 per night. There is no where on earth where you can get a value for such a prime location and with such a nice family managing the place.

Along the southern Mediterranean coast, the scenery is gorgeous with tall mountains crashing into the sea. You can take a short flight to the southwestern coast for about 45 minutes from Istanbul. You simply must sail from Fethiye to Olympos. It will be the best part of your Turkish experience. It was only 200 dollars per person for a four day sail on a Gullet (a type of Turkish Sailing vessel) when me and my wife went two years ago. The cost includes three superb Turkish meals each day. There will be about 12 other people (mostly Europeans and Australians) going along for the sail. Be sure to sleep on a mat on deck. The air is perfect. It was the best sleep I have ever experienced. The food is perfect. The company is wonderful. The old Greek ruins are amazing. The snorkeling and swimming in the warm Mediterranean is just incredible. You will depart at Olympos. Olympos is a ruin of a classical Greek city. There are many tree houses and bungalows to sleep in for about 20-25 dollars (with a huge evening meal and laundry service included in the price). You can also climb the hill at night to see the flaming Chimaera. Natural gas seeps through the hillside causing the blue flames to dance. It is magical. The ancient Greeks thought it was a three headed monster. If you have more than a week, I suggest you continue your journey to the old subterranean city of Cappadocia, then back to Istanbul.
