Andalucia, Spain’s largest province, is only a few miles from Morocco and retains many characteristics from its Moorish poast. Rolling plains planted with sunflowers, olives and wheat stretch out to the distant mountains and beyond the southern sierras, while long fertile valleys add to the varied scenery.

Climbing up to the heights of the Sierra Nevada from the villages of the Alpujarras on the south-facing slopes is an exhilarating experience. There is a wonderful contrast between the warm valleys and cool summits of these impressive mountains.

The wild and unspoiled white sandy beaches of the Costa de la Luz which run from Tarifa (Southern-most tip of Andalucia) to Cadiz along the south coast offer plenty of scope for galloping along deserted beach or exploring the dunes.

Following the old smugglers trails through the cork woods as you wind your way through the hills which lead to Ronda, is a firm favorite with riders of all ages and abilities.

If it’s an authentic Clint Eastwood cowboy experience you’re looking for then exploring the old Western Film Sets of the arid deserts of Almeria (Fort Bravo 2kms from Tabernas village) might just be the answer! You can visit the saloon, the jail, the shops, the bank and the stables.
